What to expect from March 2 Apple event (iPad 2 Release)?

By now, most of you tech fans may already know that Apple has called for its official event on March 02 in San Fransisco. This invite has put an end to one set of rumours and given rise to an entirely new set. This announcement from Apple has ignited a lot of speculation around the launch of iPad 2.

As you can see above, in the press  invitations that the Cupertino tech giant sent out features an iCal which shows March 2 as the date and the words “Come see what 2011 will be the year of.” The iCal date is peeled on the top right corner to reveal an iPad. The invite alone more or less confirms that Apple will announce the iPad 2 next week.

Now, if you see the double meaning that this date itself has; the date is 02 March, experts say that iPad 2 will have 2 cameras, it is said to have a dual core processor, it will support 2 networks (GSM and CDMA), RAM is double than iPad 1. So many 2’s there 😉

There is so much speculation going around about the expectations we can have from March 02. I am strongly in the squad who feel that Apple is going to reveal the iPad on March 02 and in this article, it is my turn to speculate on what you can expect on the March 02 and from the iPad 2. 😉

#1 Two Cameras (Front and Rear facing)

Since the first version of this mighty device was launched by Apple, people have been speculating about the iPad to have a camera. Experts say that iPad 2 will in fact have two cameras, front and rear facing with 5 and 2 Megapixels respectively to support FaceTime video calling.

#2 Better display (maybe Retina Display)

The Apple iPad 2 is expected to sport a “super high resolution”. which is expected to be 2048 by 1536 (as compared to 1024 by 768 for iPad 1) There is a lot of speculation going on around this discussion by the experts that iPad 2 will have a Retina display like iPhone and iPod touch. While, on the other hand, some say that display upgrade is not going to be a part of this release.

#3 Faster processor and RAM

Apple iPad 2 is expected to have a faster processor Cortex A5, which is equivalent of dual core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor.

The next generation iPad is expected to have a bump in RAM also. The iPad 2 will have 512MB DRAM which is double the iPad (256MB DRAM)

#4 A New OS?

As per the claims from Engadget, Apple may even announce the next version of their Operating system iOS 5.0 (or, whatever they call it)

#5 iPad will get more Sexy (Atleast, I hope so ;))

iPad 2 is speculated to be slightly smaller and slightly thinner than its previous version. With enhanced display (if it gets that ;)), double the processor power, double the RAM, and video calling feature, iPad 2 is surely gonna be more sexy compared to its predecessor.

If its true that Apple is going to make the iPad 2 announcement on March 2, then they have really proved smart (well, they are!). Apple has strategically timed the launch date as Motorola Xoom tablet went on sale last Thursday. Considering this fact, imagine how many people must have put aside the thought of buying it just to see what Apple has to reveals on March 2.

Whatever it is that Apple has up its sleeve for the iPad 2, we will have to wait for another 2 days to see the actual revelations for March 2.

What do you expect from the Apple event on March 02 or the Apple iPad 2 launch, if we may call it 🙂

A very Happy New Year 2011 from Technolism

Technolism wishes you and your family a very Happy New Year 2011.

Time flies by so fast and for me, it is very apt to say that for 2010. A lot of things happened personally and professionally for me this year, and it seems like just yesterday, when the same evening this time in 2009, I was riding a bike to my friend’s place in Pune.

Phew! In this celebration mood, I do not want to get sentimental and want to write a quick post to wish the readers of Technolism, a very Happy and a prosperous New Year 2011. In addition, I would like to throw some light on what I achieved in 2010 as a blogger.

Happy New Year 2011 from Technolism Network

2010 – The Year that was!

In some hours, we will bid adieu to 2010 and welcome 2011 with great excitement. 2010, many new developments happened which gave way to new things, new opportunities and new dreams. I won’t talk about any personal things here, though 😉

I am currently in my full time 9-6 job. I moved to the United Kingdom in March 2010 on a company assignment from my base location Pune, India. I won’t go into the details of “How Technolism was started” and what were the inspirations and motivations I had, to start a Tech Related blog (I would prefer to do it as a separate post to encourage the newbie bloggers)

Started in June 2010, Technolism is doing quite well. Till now there are 80 published posts (quite less though!) and around 300 comments (this is also not very impressive).

The traffic on these 80 posts has been impressive and the latest stats for December 2010 are around 9k+ visits (I will be sharing these in a separate post). In total, there have been 23.5k+ Visits and 34k+ PageViews on Technolism and the traffic has been increasing exponentially since the last 3-4 months. The good news for me as a blogger is that most of the traffic has been organic, with around 65% from Google.

Some resolutions for the New Year 2011

Like others, I also have some resolutions and goals for the New Year. I won’t be posting all of them here but only the ones that I have as a blogger 🙂

Below are some of the goals and resolutions I have made as a blogger:

  • Increase the frequency of posts to at least Everyday
  • Make Technolism a Do Follow blog and also make it CommentLuv enabled (to encourage comments)
  • Publish the Monthly Traffic Report for each month
  • Upgrade Technolism to a Revenue sharing Model
  • Upgrade the Look and Feel for a better User Interaction and features (I have already purchased the best Premium theme in town, Thesis for this.)
  • Add more blogs into the Technolism Blog Network in different niches

Currently we have 3 blogs in our network, Technolism, Equitipz and MoviesTemple.

I look forward to be motivated enough to write more tutorial, provide more tips and tricks and keep adding value to the community.

So, what are your resolutions and goals for the New Year?

Once again, a very Happy New Year to you and your family. Enjoy!!

Keep reading, keep commenting! 🙂

On this New Year’s Eve, I am going to attend the celebrations at London Eye, Central London. What are your plans; how are you planning to celebrate the last day of 2010?

Take the news with you – Times of India News Reader Desktop Application Review

Gone are the days when people used to wait daily for the morning newspaper. Technology is on its innovative spree and everything is getting digitalised, then why not your newspapers.

Till 1999, everyone used to learn about the latest news majorly through two medias, Newspaper and Television. As time passed by, Evolution in Digital World started, which made the access to the internet even cheaper and easier with the days passing by. With such a development happening around, almost all the News Providers started publishing their News Content Online; which user can read freely from their desktop, laptop or mobile.

Now, the only challenge with this was, to read the news, you have to be always connected to the internet, which is not possible at all times. To target such users, News Companies started developing Offline News Readers. Using such products user can download the news while they are connected to Internet, and can read in offline mode.

The Times of India’s answer to this is called the Times of India (TOI) newsreader.

Below are the exclusive features that the TOI News Reader has to offer:

1. Read the NEWS when you are not connected to the Internet

Out of all the features that this Newsreader provides, this is the one, I liked the most. The Times of India News Reader gives you the ease to take the news with you.

What this means is that you have to download the news into your local machine (in the software’s database) once in the morning and you are all set. You don’t need to be online. Simply read the stories you want, when you want.

2. Browse the news in interesting ways

This feature of TOI News Reader, caters to the reading styles of all people. Whether you like skimming headlines or diving right into the news, choose a reading style that you like. It allows you to change the theme of the reader and customize it to suit your reading habits.

3. Connect back only when you want to

Update the reader when you want to and get access to the latest news from your favourite section. It’s quick and it’s easy. You are surely going to love it.

Below is a picture of the reader with the key points highlighting some main needs that this application caters to:

  1. Preferences: In this section, you can find your connectivity status and also, has a link to setting like update frequency, City Preferences, Search mode etc.
  2. Latest News: This section gives the links to the latest news from various categories. Clicking on any of the thumbnails, takes you to that particular category where you can see all the news for the selected category.

The idea behind Quibbler is; make it possible for an end user, to read Latest News, even if they are not connected to the Internet. Whenever you are connected to Internet, just run Quibbler for five minutes, it automatically syncs up with News Server, and stores all the latest news on user’s machine for offline reading.

Facebook, which Mark started on the grounds of the exclusivity it had and did not monetize the site for a long time to keep the exclusivity living on, by not showing any irritating ads to the early users. Today, it is one of the most successful website in terms of the its advertisement services.

Step 1.

Point your browser to https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/ and and log in with your Yahoo username and password (same as your Yahoo email, if you have one).

How to verify the ownership of site for Yahoo search engine

Step 3.

You need to verify your site/blog ownership either by uploading a verification file to the site or by adding a Meta tag to the home page of your blog/site.

I prefer uploading a verification file by using any FTP client rather than adding the META tag to the blog which means, even if you make any changes to your blog, there will be no change to the uploaded file and your blog continues to be indexed in the Search engine.

For this, click on the option “By uploading a verification file to my site” You will be shown the below screen.

How to download and upload yahoo search verification file to your blog

Step 4.

Download the file by clicking on the Download button on this screen and upload it to the root folder of your blog or website like in my case it is http://www.technolism.com

I use Filezilla FTP client to access the files on my blog.

Step 5.

Once you upload the verification file to the root folder of your blog, Click on “Ready to Authenticate”

This will take you to the ‘My Sites’ section with the status for your blog turned to Green

Site feed added to Yahoo

Step 6.

Now go to the Feeds section and enter the address of your Blog feed. Click on the “Add Feed” button. Generally, for a wordpress blog, the address is http://www.example.com/feed.

How to add site feed to yahoo search engine

Your site feed gets added to Yahoo. In the similar way, you can add the Sitemap of your site to Yahoo by entering the sitemap address and clicking on Add Feed button.

how to add sitemap xml to yahoo search engine

Both the entries for your site feed and your blog sitemap will be added with the Status as New.

After some time, when Yahoo search crawlbots are able to access your blog, the status will change to Processed like you can see below like I see for my other blog Equitipz.com for which I added the Sitemap to Yahoo an year back.

[How To] tag friends on your Facebook Status Message?

Some time back, we shared the importance of having a Facebook Like button on your Blog or Website. Facebook is soon becoming a rage among masses with the other social networking sites like Orkut losing fans at the hands of Facebook.

Everybody wants to update their status to reflect their thoughts and feelings, their achievements, and also, the things they simply feel like sharing 😉

One of the most popular features on Facebook is tagging, which gives you the ability to identify and reference people in photos, videos and notes. One more added feature which I like the most is tagging people in your messages. Many a times when you are sharing something as your facebook status, in the publisher box, you mention the name of a friend or a group of friends, with whom you had a blast over the weekend. This feature of tagging people is another way to let people know who and what you’re talking about.

Below are the steps that you need to follow in order to tag a friend on your Facebook status. You can use the same method to tag a Facebook Page, group, event or application also.

Step 1.

Start typing your status update text in the publisher box. (i.e. where you type your status)

Step 2.

Now, while writing the text add a [email protected] (without quotes) where you want to add  a tag to your friend. The  @ will bring up a text that says “Type the name of someone or something…” under the publisher text area.

Step 3.

After @ (in the step 2), start typing the name of the friend that you want to mention in your message. A drop-down will get displayed which shows all friends which match the alphabets that you type.

After selecting the highlighted friend (in blue highlighting), you can repeat Step 2 and Step 3 to add multiple friends.
