How to Remove or Disable Timeline Profile Feature on Facebook

Facebook added a new feature, the Facebook Timeline back in September 2011 when it was made available to only a limited number of user. We had written a quick hack to get instant access to Facebook Timeline profile feature.

It was later, opened to the public on December 15, 2011 and became available to all. This new feature was said to be the first step for a massive change on upcoming Facebook.

Facebook Timeline Covers

This new kind of profile lets the user highlight images and events which can give a much clearer image of the user’s life and personality. At the same time, the user is completely free to display whatever he or she feels is suitable for public, which means that he or she is free to hide any event of his or her life from specific group of people.

Timeline was created by Facebook to make it easier for users to interact, share and bring like-minded users together. In other words, it makes the user’s profile look more like the user’s CV listing down all your lifetime events like your personal diary.

New “Life Saving” Organ Donor Option by Facebook

Facebook is no doubt the biggest social networking website today that plays an important role in connecting people all across the globe. Since its beginning, Mark Zuckerberg, the brilliant CEO of Facebook has taken great endeavours to make the site one of the most popular and vast social networking platform. And recently he has taken a step ahead and unveiled for the first time, an organ donor option for Facebook Timeline.

Facebook Donor Option

The new organ donor option is an overwhelming effort made available on a social network platform that will prove to be of great help for the people who are really in need of any life-saving organ to be donated. The organ donor status is really an awesome move and a noble effort to save many precious lives around the world.

It has been estimated that more than 6300 people in US die annually while waiting for a donor organ, be it is heart or liver or kidney. Roughly around 18 people in the country lose their lives daily because of lack of donors.

In an interview, Zuckerberg stated that the idea of organ donation clicked in his mind after realizing the dreadful conditions of the people who faced last year’s disasters of earthquake and Tsunami and he thought to connect the needful people worldwide with the help of Facebook.

But in fact it was his friendship with Steve Jobs, Apple founder who died last year due to pancreatic cancer and his sudden death inspired Mark to start this noble project on Facebook. And the day when this new feature was introduced, an unexpected number of over 100,000 users registered themselves as organ donor on Facebook.

Not only this, several health organizations in the country praised this humanitarian step and decided to work hand in hand to serve the humanity.

How to Declare Yourself as Organ Donor on Facebook?

Declaring yourself as organ donor on Facebook is quite simple. All you have to do is to sign up into your Facebook timeline and then click on ‘Life Event’. Then click on ‘Health and Wellness’ and you will see an option for ‘Organ Donor’. Here you can add all your registration details and your personal story.

If you are not an organ donor, you will be given an appropriate registry link. You can also keep your organ donor status public or private as you do while entering other Timeline status.

This will help you to add your life event as an organ donor on Facebook profile and help the needy to search for a matching organ for transplantation.  So, with the help of this new organ donor option on Facebook, you can donate up to 100 body parts and that too with a few clicks.

Facebook Organ Donor Option

Thus, Mark’s sincere and noble efforts has enabled social network to serve humanity and now Facebook has evolved out as a bridge to connect organ donors and organ seekers. However, this new feature of organ donor is available in the US and UK regions as of now but soon it will get rolled out to other parts of the globe also.

What do you think about this new feature from Facebook – will this be helpful for a wider mass of people who are needy of vital organs?

Reasons Behind Facebook Porn Attack Explained

You should know about the P0rn attack that spread through your Facebook newsfeed. P0rnographic images and videos were spreading through newsfeed. It appeared as your friend posted it, but the interesting part is that, your friend didn’t even know what happened when you ask him.

There is no details on who was behind this attack. Anyway many people think the hacking activists group Anonymous did it. Now Facebook identifies that this spam attack was the result of a browser vulnerability. It was not done by Anonymous. The people behind this attack worked out a self XSS attack through a browser vulnerability. XSS is otherwise known as Cross Site Scripting. This is a security hazard that enabled hackers and crackers to interfere with browser logic by inserting their own logic and thus creating a vulnerability.

A java script code will be executed in your browser, that is capable of taking full control of the website you’re accessing. In this case, this turned out to be Facebook. The traditional copy-paste-js trick worked here too.

When the user pastes the JS code into his browser’s address bar, the java script is injected and this JavaScript will start controlling your Facebook account with all the privileges. And the worst thing is that, people will mistake that it is you who is posting these porn content over their newsfeeds.

Most probably, the scammers hid the “like” button behind an image, such as a YouTube Video Image  with a playing button. Users clicked this ‘disguised’ danger to light the fire to a sequence of unhealthy posts over their friend’s walls.

Facebook team is working hard to fix this vulnerability the soonest, and till then Facebook users should take care, not to click any untrusted links, or images, or videos, even if it is posted by your best friend. Because if you do, you are risking your account and moreover social image.

Music and Videos ‘ticker’ – Hot new feature to be introduced on Facebook

Facebook, the largest social networking site which has been dominating the social media for quite long now. Even the launch of Google+ could not do much harm to Facebook. Rather, it has been great for the users for whom the Facebook vs Google+ battle has led the social media giant, Facebook to introduce various new features to keep up with the competition or the so-called threat from Google Plus.

One of the new features that is coming out from Facebook aims at turning the social networking experience into an interesting one with the introduction of Music and Film ‘ticker.’

Facebook Music Ticker

This Thursday, Facebook will unveil Music and Film ‘ticker’ which will be a real-time stream of what its users are listening to and watching online, which is going to turn this giant social networking site into a major entertainment destination on the web. I am personally quite excited about this feature and want to have a hands-on as soon as it is launched on 22 September at the F8 conference in San Francisco as part of the “read, watch and listen” theme.

Facebook is expected to partner with Spotify and Vevo who would be unveiling new Facebook apps which would allow the users to stream music and video within facebook without leaving the site.

Mark Zuckerberg is also expected to make major changes to the Facebook Like button which will allow developers to create their own buttons with verbs like “want,” “desire,” or “need.”

As reported by The Guardian,

Facebook’s 750 million users will be able to automatically share activity such as viewing, listening and reading in the live “ticker” stream, once they have opted in to the feature. The new stream will be separate from the existing Facebook news feed, although popular items – such as the most frequently played songs among friends – will appear in the column.

With the introduction of such awesome features, Facebook is making every possible attempt to make its 750 million users to stay on the site for as long as possible and I am sure this particular attempt of introducing the Music and Movies ‘ticker’ is going to be a hit among the users.

Listening to music and watching movies / videos is one of the most popular activities on the internet that you and me also do, and with both these coming to Facebook, imagine by how much is the average time spent by a user going to increase on Facebook 😉 Well, lets’ wait and watch :)

Photo organizing Facebook app Pixable has analysed about 500,000 of its users’ profiles and come up with some interesting facts about the photos people choose to represent themselves on Facebook, in the form of an infographic.
